On this date in 2004, Disney’s feature film Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement – starring Ann Hathaway and Julie Andrews – opens nationwide. Princess Mia is fresh out of college and on her way to being queen, with the guidance of her grandmother, when the royal court rules that she must marry first! Anne Hathaway’s mother and director Garry Marshall make brief appearances in the film. Hathaway’s mother is the leader of the chorus singing at Mia’s wedding while Marshall is the middle drummer (the one on the left) in the coronation scene.
